Our right to defend our families needs to be protected: Letter

Jackson Newspapers

The founders of the United States named some of the most important provisions of our Constitution in the Bill of Rights; the Second Amendment states that it is the right of all Americans to keep and bear arms. If this is written in our Constitution, why are democratic law makers aiming to take this right away? Laws proposed by the Democrat-led House of Representatives have moved to create barriers to our rights to own guns through legislation like HR 1446 and HR 8. HR 1446 would infringe on the ability of Americans to protect themselves from danger by imposing a 10-day waiting period to purchase a firearm while background checks occur.

Although House Democrats seek to take away our Second Amendment right, Congressman Alex Mooney from West Virginia seeks to defend and honor our right to keep and bear arms. Mooney’s co-sponsoring of the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (HR 38), the Gun Owner Privacy Act (HR 1132) and the LEOSA Reform Act (HR 1210) will all work to ensure that our Second Amendment right is not infringed upon.

Biden has recently stated that “No amendment to the U.S. Constitution is absolute.” That is why I am proud to be a West Virginian and constituent of Congressman Alex Mooney. Congressman Mooney is working hard to support and defend our constitutional right to keep and bear arms by co-sponsoring impactful legislation in response to recent Democrat-proposed gun-control legislation. It is important that members of Congress like Alex Mooney continue to work to defend our right to bear arms. The protection of ourselves and our families is more important than ever. Americans’ right to defend their families should be protected.
