Mooney, bikers share passion for helping abused children
MARTINSBURG – There was no mistaking the roar of motorcycle engines Monday afternoon when nearly two dozen Bikers Against Child Abuse members rolled up to the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia – ready to meet U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va.
Mooney, who spent time chatting with club members before climbing onto a nearby motorcyle, praised their volunteer spirit and sense of compassion.
“It’s just a win-win, because they have taken a hobby that they love and made it so much more by how they are helping abused children. I just can’t say enough about the men and women you see here today,” said Mooney, smiling as he watched the bikers share stories about amazing children who’d ended up touching their lives.
It was also an opportunity for Mooney to learn more about the Children’s Home Society, a private, nonprofit agency (located at 653 Winchester Ave.) that provides a variety of family services including adoption and birth parent counseling.
