Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) issued the following statement after Sen. Joe Manchin and Senate Democrats removed weak energy permit reform language from a government funding bill. The plan was abandoned after Democrats failed to secure enough support for the partisan proposal.
“Joe Manchin’s full-throated support of the ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ earned him a signing pen from a beaming President Biden at the White House. As expected, Biden, Schumer and Pelosi took Joe Manchin to the cleaners. Sen. Manchin came away empty handed, and West Virginians are left with the liberal behemoth that is the Inflation Expansion Act,” said Congressman Alex X. Mooney. “Government spending remains out of control, and our economy is in a recession. We need to help grow American energy independence without doubling the size of the Internal Revenue Service and wasting over $350 billion on a Green New Deal agenda. Congress should give strong consideration to Sen. Capito’s thoughtful and transparent approach to resolving the permitting issue.”
