Congressman Mooney Introduces Bill to Designate Fidelity Month

Rep. Alex X. Mooney introduced H.R 4294, to direct the President of the United States to designate one month each year as Fidelity Month for the purpose of rededicating our Nation to the values of faith, family, and patriotism.

Reps. Mary Miller (R-IL), Josh Brecheen (R-OK) and Greg Steube (R-FL) have signed onto the bill as original cosponsors.

This bill was inspired by Professor Robert P. George, Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University. Professor George is a native of West Virginia. He promoted celebrating Fidelity Month in response to a survey published by The Wall Street Journal of over 1,000 American adults, which showed support for traditional values has significant declined. A majority of Americans no longer view values like having children, being involved in the community, religion, or patriotism as “very important.”

“Our survival as a country depends on the shared bonds of faith, family and patriotism, it is therefore fitting to observe a month where Americans of all faiths and beliefs can come together to reaffirm and rededicate ourselves to our core values,” said Rep. Alex X. Mooney.

Congressman Mooney published an op-ed in the Martinsburg Journal on the troubling decline in American Values, which you can read here.
