Congressman Alex X. Mooney Urges President Trump to Relocate Federal Agencies to Opportunity Zones in West Virginia

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) sent a letter to President Donald J. Trump urging him to relocate Federal agencies from Washington, D.C. to Opportunity Zones in the State of West Virginia. The Trump Administration issued an executive order on August 24th about relocating Federal agencies to Opportunity Zones across the country that would benefit from increased investment. Congressman Mooney took this opportunity to advocate for the State of West Virginia.

“West Virginia has a diverse state economy anchored by important goods and services like energy, hardwood products, and tourism. The Mountain State boasts proximity to Washington, D.C. and Dulles International Airport, a dedicated workforce and an affordable cost of living,” said Congressman Alex X. Mooney.

In his letter, Congressman Mooney specifically noted Opportunity Zones in West Virginia’s Second Congressional District, including in Charles Town, Martinsburg and Charleston.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act signed into law in December 2017 was a historic reform that helped spur economic growth, job creation, and rebuilt manufacturing in America. One of the most successful initiatives of the tax reform was the creation of Opportunity Zones. According to the White House Council of Economic Advisors, this program has encouraged more than $75 billion in economic investments into some of our country’s hardest hit areas.
