Congressman Alex X. Mooney Statement on Little Sisters of the Poor SCOTUS Victory

 

WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Little Sisters of the Poor v. Pennsylvania:

 

“I applaud the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of the Little Sisters of the Poor’s case for religious exemption against the Obamacare contraceptive mandate. The federal mandate to distribute contraceptives was in direct conflict with their deeply held religious beliefs. This is yet another example of the failure of Obamacare. For the President’s 2016 State of the Union Address, I was proud to meet Sister Loraine Marie Maguire and Sister Constance Veit. They were Speaker Paul Ryan’s guests and ensnarled in the fight against the devastating implications of the Obamacare mandate.

 

“I applaud the Little Sisters of the Poor for remaining resilient in their fight for a religious exemption. Religious freedom is a foundational, guiding principle of our country that our government continues to uphold.”
