Congressman Alex X. Mooney Statement on House Democrats’ Anti-Police Act

WASHINGTON – Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) today issued the following statement on H.R. 7120:

“Today House Democrats passed a purely partisan bill, which would only serve to make Americans less safe. Rather than focusing on investing in improving law enforcement training and equipment, Democrats decided to prioritize personal lawsuits against police officers. This bill would disincentivize anyone from ever wanting to serve as law enforcement.

“House Democrats’ legislation today creates more crime, danger and division and further demoralizes our police officers on the front lines.

“Unlike Congress after House Democrats’ recent rule change, our brave law enforcement officers cannot simply send in a proxy vote and decide not to come into work. They are on the front lines, fighting the drug epidemic each day and keeping our loved ones safe.

“Some of the loudest voices proclaiming their support for the defund the police movement are the very Democrat Members of Congress, including Speaker Pelosi, who are privileged to be under the constant protection of the U.S. Capitol Police. What hypocrisy to be jamming through an anti-police agenda when it is police officers who allow Congress to run safely and efficiently each day.

“It is a time for unity, not division. Shame on Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats for yet another political game at the expense of law-abiding Americans,” said Congressman Mooney.
