CONGRESSMAN ALEX X. MOONEY REINTRODUCES Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Alex X. Mooney, joined lead sponsor Rep. Thomas Massie and over a dozen House Republicans on H.R. 6590, the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act. The bill will ensure middle-class seniors get the support they need by eliminating the unjust double-tax on Social Security benefits.

“The cost of living for seniors is rising and this will bring immediate tax relief for West Virginians,” said Representative Alex X. Mooney. “Seniors worked hard to earn their Social Security benefits and have already been taxed on their contributions to Social Security. The federal tax on Social Security is a double-tax and its repeal is the right thing to do for our seniors.”

The Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act was originally introduced in 2003 by Representative Ron Paul (R-TX). Rep. Massie has introduced this bill each Congress since taking office in 2012. Original cosponsors include Representatives Alex Mooney (R-WV), Daniel Webster (R-FL), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Debbie Lesko (R-AZ), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Ben Cline (R-VA), Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Bill Posey (R-FL), Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Chip Roy (R-TX), Scott Perry (R-PA), Tim Burchett (R-TN), and Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
