CONGRESSMAN ALEX X. MOONEY CONGRATULATES LILY TURNER ON ACCEPTANCE INTO U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) announced Lily Turner of Elkview, West Virginia, has been offered acceptance into the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Turner was selected for appointment by Rep. Mooney’s 2022 Service Academy Review Board for West Virginia’s Second Congressional District.

“I am pleased to nominate Lily for the United States Naval Academy. Lily will proudly represent West Virginia and our nation to the best of her abilities,” said Congressman Alex X. Mooney. “Lily’s determination, work ethic and support for our American military are exactly why she would be an outstanding addition to the United States Naval Academy.”

Lily Turner attends Herbert Hoover High School in Elkview, West Virginia. She is ranked first in her class and is interested in pursuing a career based in mathematics. Lily is at her best in structured environments and knows that the United States Naval Academy will provide that and more.

“I want to attend a Service Academy because I want to serve my country and be a part of something bigger than myself,” said Lily Turner. “The Service Academies each provide a challenge to the mind and body. Without challenge, I cannot know how far I can go. By attending a Service Academy, I can test my limits and expand them. Learning to lead to the best of my ability can help me in and out of the military. I can be my best self at a Service Academy; attending one of these schools will allow me to achieve strong personal values.”

Nominations are based on academic merit, moral character, scholarship, leadership potential, physical aptitude, career goals and motivation. Admittance to any of our nation’s service academies is highly competitive, with a limited number of cadets accepted each year.
