WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) announced $14,152,476 in grants for the State of West Virginia and an additional $1,102,835 in grants for Martinsburg and Charleston to help combat the coronavirus.
These grants are being dispersed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to address the spread of the coronavirus in the state. Allotted funds include Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA). Last week, HUD received a $12.4 billion allocation of funds from the passing of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, and these grants are among the first to be awarded.
“This first allocation of HUD grants will help equip our communities with additional resources needed to fight the spread of the coronavirus,” said Congressman Mooney.
