Congressman Alex X. Mooney Announces $356,000 Grant for Berkeley County Schools
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-2) announced a $356,882 grant from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) to Berkeley County Schools: The Martinsburg Initiative. The funds are provided through the Combating Opioid Overdose through Community-Level Intervention (COOCLI) program.
“I welcome this investment to help Berkeley County Schools and the Martinsburg Initiative continue their efforts to combat the opioid epidemic. West Virginians know firsthand the devastating impact the opioid crisis is having across our state.
I look forward to working with my colleagues in West Virginia and the federal government to reverse the tide of drug use that has impacted every corner of our state. President Donald Trump is committed to fighting the drug epidemic and I will continue to work with the Trump Administration to secure investments for our state”, said Congressman Mooney.
Specifically, funds provided under this award will support efforts to: 1) undertake research activities that entail implementing and evaluating community-based efforts to fight the opioid overdose epidemic; and 2) support and promote the partnership of law enforcement and public health agencies, whose collaboration is critical to reducing overdoses and other harms of opioid abuse.
Berkeley County Schools: The Martinsburg Initiative will receive the COOCLI funds through a cooperative agreement between ONDCP and the University of Baltimore’s Center for Drug Policy and Enforcement.
