WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-02) announced David Andrew Elliott Foglesong of Shepherdstown has been offered acceptance into the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Mr. Foglesong was nominated by Rep. Mooney and selected for appointment by the congressman’s 2021 Service Academy Review Board for West Virginia’s Second Congressional District.
“One of my most important responsibilities as your Congressman is nominating young men and women for admission to our country’s service academies,” said Rep. Alex Mooney. “These nominees represent some of the best and brightest West Virginians. I would like to congratulate David Andrew Elliott Foglesong of Shepherdstown on his acceptance into the U.S. Naval Academy. David is an outstanding young man with a fantastic future ahead of him. He comes from a family of committed public servants and will continue their legacy of highly trained and dedicated leaders. I am very proud of his selfless dedication to serving our nation, and I wish him all the best as he pursues his academic career.”
David Andrew Elliott Foglesong attends Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction where he is an excellent student. He has a multi-generational military heritage on both sides of his family. His parents were active duty then retirees, as well their fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers. His maternal grandfather was a Naval Aviator in World War II.
“From a multi-generational military heritage on both sides of my family, I desire to also defend my country in uniformed service and have for as long as I can remember. My top reason for challenging myself mentally and physically is my desire to become a better servant leader,” said David Andrew Elliott Foglesong. “When I volunteer for leadership or service positions, it is to help others not for self-advancement. I hope to be pushed beyond my known limits. I believe the finest citizens, midshipmen and cadets deserve leadership by those who have been pushed to be their best.”
Nominations are based on academic merit, moral character, scholarship, leadership potential, physical aptitude, career goals and motivation. Admittance to any of our nation’s service academies is highly competitive, with a limited number of cadets being accepted each year.
