Today, Congressman Alex X. Mooney (WV-2) announced that his office is partnering with the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. to bring the Veterans History Project to West Virginia.
“As the son of a Vietnam Veteran, I recognize the importance of honoring our veterans and learning from their examples and wisdom. West Virginia has a proud history of military service and I will continue to do my part to help preserve these wonderful stories for generations to come”, said Congressman Mooney.
The United States Congress created the Veterans History Project (VHP) in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. VHP’s mission is to collect, preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may recount them directly. The Congressman’s office will help facilitate organizations, high school groups, and other interested constituents, with the Library of Congress staff to help complete the projects.
The first Veterans History Project kicked off last week at Hedgesville High School with an AP English Class. Any group that wants to participate in the project should contact Congressman Mooney’s Martinsburg office at 304-264-8810 or email WV02.VHP@mail.house.gov.
