Congressman Alex Mooney Praises Committee Passage of THRIVE Act
Yesterday, the House Financial Services Committee passed H.R. 5735, the Transitional Housing for Recovery in Viable Environments (THRIVE) Act. This legislation allows a limited number of Housing Choice Vouchers to be used at transitional non-profits that have evidence-based models of recovery and life skills training. Congressman Mooney cosponsored the legislation and released the following statement:
“As I travel throughout West Virginia I continually hear the need for more resources to help those struggling with drug addiction. The THRIVE Act is one way the federal government can help local communities step up to provide much needed housing options. I am proud to work with my colleague Congressman Andy Barr of neighboring Kentucky on this legislation.
I recently toured Rea of Hope and Recovery Point in Charleston with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson. Each of these exceptional facilities provide housing solutions for those individuals that are in recovery and getting their life back on track.
I will continue to work with President Donald Trump to find ways that the federal government can assist local governments and non-profits to help those seeking drug addiction treatment,” said Congressman Mooney.
