Today, Congressman Alex X. Mooney was proud to welcome Maryanna Parker to the United States Capitol for a special presentation. Maryanna is a high school student from Falling Waters, WV. She earned The Congressional Award Bronze Medal for her outstanding accomplishments. The Congressional Award program is a great opportunity for young folks to get involved in their communities, develop personally and professionally, and explore their interests. It is the highest honor the U.S. Congress’ bestows upon youth.
The United States Congress established The Congressional Award Foundation on November 16, 1979 to recognize initiative, service, and achievement in young people. The Congressional Award is about challenge. The program affords young people the opportunity to set and achieve personally challenging goals. Along the way, each participant gains qualities and skills that prepare them for their future like leadership, citizenship, and service to others.
