MARTINSBURG - U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., has been appointed to two subcommittees of the House of Representatives' Natural Resources Committee: Energy and Mineral Resources, and Oversight and Investigations.

The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee is newly formed to oversee the regulatory agencies of the executive branch, according to a news release from Mooney's office.

West Virginia's delegation in Washington, D.C., had mixed reactions to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, but each representative tended to disagree with the President.

Obama started off his speech talking about improvements he has helped make for the economy. He only mentioned the energy sector twice, noting the Keystone XL pipeline bill and lower gas prices.

As of Friday, Jan. 16 Americans will have more privileges when traveling to Cuba.

Travel to Cuba is still limited to the 12 existing categories of family visits, education, religious activities and journalism among others. However, Americans now can use credit cards and bring back $400 worth of goods. Alcohol and tobacco purchases are limited to $100.

Mooney, 43, said he thought President Barack Obama’s Dec. 17 announcement was the wrong approach.
